British War Medal 1914 - 18 to Pte Cox - Died of W
British War Medal 1914 - 1918 to 17633 Pte Frank Ernest Sidney Cox, Gloucestershire Regiment. Died of wounds in England 29th August 1918, aged 22. Private Frank Ernest Sidney Cox was born in Longhope, the son of Henry and Clara Cox, of Cheltenham. Before the war, he worked on Kayte Farm for Mr Frank Burroughs and enlisted in the 10th Battalion Gloucestershire Regt late in 1914. He had seen almost 4 years service in the army when he was wounded in France and invalided to England, where he died in King Georges Hospital. He was buried in Cheltenham Cemetery. His brother Albert was also killed in the war.
Appreciation Certificate Of WW1 Service - Atherton
Colourful certificate presented to James Worthington by the Citizens of Atherton (Greater Manchester) as a token of their appreciation of his service in WW1. Measures approx. 24x30cm condition is slightly grubby and some damage to edges (see photo), however nice display item.
1918 Letter Personally Signed By Field Marshal J.C
30th September 1918 dated letter from Field Marshal J.C Smuts to Major-General E.O Hay concerning his sons army career. The letter is personally signed in ink by Smuts, and comes with its original envelope. Smuts during the First World War, he led the armies of South Africa against Germany, capturing German South-West Africa. He then commanded the British Army in East Africa. From 1917 to 1919 he was also one of the members of the British Imperial War Cabinet, and he was instrumental in the founding of what became the Royal Air Force (RAF). He was appointed as a field marshal in the British Army in 1941. He was the only person to sign both of the peace treaties ending the First and Second World wars. A statue to commemorate him was erected in London\'s Parliament Square.
Air Raid Warden - Armband.
Original wartime \"Air Raid Warden\" armband, being screen printed red lettering on yellow cloth armband with four cloth ties. This style of armband were early war issue, this scarce example is in excellent possible unissued condition with just some light staining and marks.
